TheSkyX Pro X2 Dome Plugins for OS X

This page will have all the X2Dome plugins I work on. These are mostly for OS X but some also work on Windows, Linux (Ubuntu) and Raspberry PI-3.

As it's hard to get access to the real hardware, I'll give priority to whichever vendor is willing to help. If you own a dome and want OS X or Linux support for TheSkyX Pro, let me know which one and what controller you are using. If I can get the protocol documentation, I will try to write a X2 Plugin for it.

NexDome X2 Dome plugin :

This plugin allows you to control a dome rotation and shutter with the NexDome Dome Rotation Kit from NexDome (shutter control should be available soon too). This was developed and tested using a "desk" dome (see the DIY section for some pictures).

The NexDome Rotation Kit firmware can be found on Gerry Rozema's GitHub.

Version 1.40 of the plugin has some bug fixes and works with the new 1.10 firmware. On firmware 1.10 and above there is a new "reverse direction" option.

On firmware 1.10 and up, the settings dialog will also report the calculated pointing error (done by the controller, not my code) and the rain sensor status (more on this latter :) ).

Make sure you read the instruction on calibration from the firmare instructions: Calibration.txt

Both the plugin and the sources are available bellow. For the OS X package, remember to set your "Allow apps downloaded from:" settings in the "Security & Privacy" system preferences to "Mac App Store and identified developers".

The OS X zip file contains the installable pkg : NexDome X2 OS X Plugin version 1.40

The Windows zip file contains the needed files and an INSTALL.TXT with the explanation on how to install it : NexDome X2 Windows Plugin version 1.40. On Windows, you also need to install the Arduino USB driver by installing the Arduino IDE from https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software.

The RPI-3 tgz file contains the needed files and an INSTALL_RPI.TXT with the explanation on how to install it : NexDome X2 RPI-3 Plugin version 1.40.

The Linux Ubuntu tgz file contains the needed files and an INSTALL_Ubuntu.TXT with the explanation on how to install it : NexDome X2 Linux Ubuntu Plugin version 1.40.

The plugin source code is available on GitHub : NexDome X2 Plugin sources. To compile the plugin yourself, you'll need the X2 Example code from Software Bisque. This is not required if you only want to install the plugin.

MaxDome II X2 Dome plugin :

This plugin allows you to control a dome rotation and shutter with the MaxDome II controller from Cyanogen (Diffraction Limited).

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed : MaxDome II Downloads (click on the downloads tab and scroll down to the Firmware link

I had access to a dome controller so that part is tested and seem to work fine. The shutter part is untested..

In the latest version I was able to get the calibrate and Sync fixed, as well as sensor debounce time implemented. I would recommend using "Find Home" instead of Sync, after setting the Home Azimuth in the settings

Test shutter with the real hardware (need someone that has one and can test).

Rigel rotation drive unit for Pulsar dome X2 Dome plugin :

This plugin allows you to control a dome rotation and shutter with the Rigel rotation drive unit controller from Pulsar Observatories.

I don't have access to the hardware so none of this was tested.

This plugin allows you to control a Backyard Observatories' m1OASYS roll-off roof automation system.

This plugin allows you to control a SkyRoof system for roll-off roof observatories.
